DIY | Ripped Jeans

After seeing a lot of ripped style jeans in magazines and in the shops lately I have been umming and ahhing about ripping a pair of my own jeans myself, even though I am not the best at DIY or arts and crafts! However after looking at a few tutorials online I mustered up the courage to possibly butcher and ruin a pair of my Topshop Leigh jeans...luckily they survived and here are the results!

So I am now going to explain step-by-step how to re-create this look yourself. If I can do it, a monkey could do it!

What you need

Jeans
Sharp scissors
Pen
Sand paper
Needle

Mark on the jeans with a pen where you want the rips (marking the jeans whilst you are wearing them is easier and more accurate)

Fold the jeans in the opposite direction of the pen line as shown below, then using the scissors cut the jeans as marked.

Once you have made the slit, use the sand paper to fray the edges. There's no wrong or right way to do this, so just go for it! The more messier the better in my opinion.

You may get long bits of thread and fabric after fraying your jeans so just trim them down to your preferred length with the scissors.

Once you have finished fraying your jeans they should look something like this...

Now if you want to pull the threads out to make them look a bit more naturally ripped, use the needle to  pull out one-by-one the threads until you have the desired effect (excuse my spazzy thumb in the picture below, it's hard taking photos and DIYing your jeans at the same time!)

And that's pretty much it! I have since pulled and ripped my jeans more whilst wearing them, and they should fray a bit more when you wash them. I am even considering putting more rips in my jeans. I hope this post was helpful and interesting! Let me know if you would like to see more DIY posts :)

Hope you all have a good weekend!

Outfit Post | Reworked

 Headband | Topshop
Crop Top | New Look
Skirt | Ark (reworked)
Shoes | Missguided
Choker & Rings | Ebay

My outfit posts lately have all been super casual and day time looks, so I thought i'd mix it up a bit and show you an outfit I would like to wear on my next night out (can you tell I don't get out a lot?) I have also done my "going out" make-up, which is basically the same as my normal make-up apart from the eyeshadow.

Tartan has shown it's pretty face again and is a trend that comes and goes as often as the sun does in England (especially today, never known the weather have as many mood swings!) which is why I never binned this skirt which I got in my first year of uni. Originally it was a tad longer and baggier, but my super star of a mum shortened it for me and it fits a lot better now.

My shoes are my babies and my favourite heels I own! Even though they are extremely high I can assure you they are comfy and easy to walk in, if you know how to walk in stilts. The pentagram choker necklace is my most recent and favourite find on eBay. I have been searching the shops for a nice choker without much luck, but as usual eBay saved the day, and all for a purse-friendly £3.

I am off to bed now as I have an early start and day of travelling to Ireland tomorrow, hopefully I will have some nice photos and outfits to share with you when I get back!

Outfit Post | Day-to-Day

Hat, Leggings & Shoes | Topshop
Top | H&M
Cardigan | Urban Outfitters
Necklace | River Island
Black Stone Ring | Forever 21
Other Rings | eBay

I really love how my new shoes go with pretty much everything I own. They give me a much needed height boost and are EXTREMELY comfortable too. The cardigan is also a recent purchase and is great for this time of year when it's just starting to get warm enough to leave the house without a jacket! It's super comfy and again, goes with pretty much anything.

I added the neon vest top to brighten up this outfit and jazzed it up with a nice big chunky necklace. I have had my leather-look leggings foreverrrrrr, and they never fail to add a bit of texture to day time outfits! I have however been on the hunt for leather trousers so I can actually wear short tops and t-shirts without having to worry about covering my derriere up like I do in my leggings. I can't find any that fit me right and for a reasonable price, so if you know of any skinny leather-look trousers then please let me know!

I know I have been mostly blogging outfit posts lately, so if you would like me to blog about something different then your suggestions are most welcome. I find that personally I am most attracted to outfit posts when I browse other blogs, but if you want to read something different then I am more than happy to vary it up a bit :)

Outfit Post | Heavy In The Day

Hat & Rucksack | New Look
Dress | Topshop
Jacket | Miss Selfridge
Boots | Dr.Martens
Necklace | Urban Outfitters
Bracelet | Gift
Rings | eBay & Forever 21

I love it when I rediscover an old item of clothing that you totally forgot about (my mum would say that's a sign of having too many clothes, I disagree!). I did this with my black fedora hat which I got nearly two years ago now when I was on work experience in London. It is a little out of shape from being squished in my drawer but oh well, you can't really tell!

The dress is a new purchase from Topshop and was the perfect day to night dress on my recent trip to Amsterdam. It's extremely comfortable, flattering and the perfect length for my height which is something i normally struggle with when it comes to dresses.

I did wear it without tights and just knee-high socks in Amsterdam but it was a wee bit chilly today!

The Dr.Martens are also a new purchase which I got for the bargain price of £58 brand new from eBay. Pretty good considering the retail price is £125! Still in the early stages of wearing them in though, can't say they are the comfiest shoes i've ever had (I blame my stupidly arched feet).

Next weekend I will be going to Radio One's Big Weekend in Ireland to visit my boyfriend, and I can definitely say this will be a perfect outfit for the festival.

Today I am blogging from Gotherburg in Sweden, so here is my first outfit post abroad! I'm visiting my boyfriend on tour and this is my last full day with him.

I have to say I really love this city, all the guys look like Zara models, the streets are clean, the sun is shining and everyone sits outside drinking wine, what more could you want?

I am gonna keep this post short and sweet as I am now off to have another drink in the sun :)

Outfit Post | Boho

Dress | Primark
Shoes | Topshop
Head Chain | Rock 'N' Rose
Necklace | Empty Casket
Rings | Ebay, Forever 21, Primark

In my last outfit post I mentioned how I tend to claim items of clothing back that I designate for Ebaying just before I put them up for auction...well i've done it again.

I have literally had this Primark dress for YEARS. I think I got it when I was about 17 which was 6 years ago, flippin' eck! I have held on to it for so long waiting for an opportunity to wear it again and I feel now is the right time.

I teamed it up with some chunky Topshop boots and Rock 'N' Rose head chain to give it a bit of an edge, and I would wear a leather jacket and rucksack to finish the look. I haven't dared to wear it out yet as it takes a lot for me to get my legs out during the day time in England, however after this recent lovely weather it may not be long before I dare to bare!

One more thing, the lilac lipstick i'm wearing is by Barry M and is my new favourite lipstick; i'm in love with it! Literally worn it everyday since I bought it.

What do you think of this look? All thoughts and comments are extremely appreciated :)
